The Scottish Coastal Rowing Project

Encouraging Boat Building and Rowing Racing in Scottish Coastal Communities

The Scottish Fisheries Museum at Anstruther is supporting this initiative to restart Coastal Rowing & Racing around the Scottish Coastline.

The basic principle of this project is that the boats to be raced should be available at as low a price as possible, so Jordan Boats will be supplying kits for a new Iain Oughtred design to be known as the St Ayles Skiff.  The estimated completion cost of one of these boats is around 3000.

The St Ayles Skiff will be approximately 22ft, with a beam of 5'8".  Crew will be four oarsmen or women, with a coxswain.

Immediately available below are the basic leaflet and the Prospectus for the project.  We will be finishing the Information Pack during week ending 9 July 2009, and this will be available from this site and from the Fisheries Museum website.

The Design should be completed by early August 2009, and the kits will be available from early September.

The first races will take place in the late spring of 2010.
