This canoe is designed as a lightweight craft which can easily car top and which will safely take a small outboard motor to use for fishing and camping. The beam is 44″ giving plenty of internal space and additional stability when moving around in the boat. She uses the stitch and tape method of construction. Depending upon the type of ply used, weight will be around 55 lbs.
The pictures show the Motor Canoe built by John Fletcher. It can be seen that he has made a few small changes to the fitting out in the plans. The seats have been made from Western Red Cedar to make them more comfortable than flat plywood, and to save weight over more conventional timbers. The rubbing strip uses rope which protects the gunwale and any boat it will contact. What cannot be easily seen is that John modified the transom to give a little more rake than on the plans.
What he has is a boat that suits exactly what he wants to use it for, something that he would probably not be able to buy without spending a disproportionate amount of money.
