The Sprite is a fine rowing boat that was originally developed between Andrew Wolstenholme and the late Jack Chippendale. The build is very simple and is quite easy for a complete beginner – as Alec was when he built his first boat.
When completed, the skiff is easy to row, and will provide a good exercise machine, without being stuck in a gym without the view.
Andrew has written:
The finished boat is light and easy to row, tracks well and is forgiving for the novice. And I like to think that she is pretty. I have never capsized mine and am unaware of one having ever tipped over although surely someone must have. She exceeds hull speed effortlessly and is a revelation to people not used to sliding seat rowing. Soon after she was built I took mine over to Ireland and was delighted with her performance on the choppy waters of Lough Derg, slicing through waves upwind and surfing downwind without taking on a drop of water.
The Sprite design holds a special place in Alec Jordan’s heart, as it was building this design that started him on the road to Jordan Boats. Unfortunately, Alec’s Sprite was stolen from a boat compound one winter.
